The Sunflowers Begin to Bloom

My wife Michelle loves sunflowers and I've tried to grow them while we lived in the condo but they just never worked out.  Either I couldn't get them started or the plants I bought at the store wouldn't last much longer than cut flowers.

This year, I managed to get two plants to make it from seed to planting and one of them is starting to bloom.  We're very excited.  It's planted in the back of the picket fence garden, which puts it right up against the picture window in the living room.  That means it'll be in a prime location to enjoy every day.

Nothing says summer like a sunflower.  Bright yellow and larger than life, they remind me of the beanstalk in "Jack and the Beanstalk."  It's amazing how fast they grow and how tall they get.  Come back in just one day and it appears to have grown several inches and has big broad leaves larger than my hand.

What an amazing plant.
