One Lonely Eggplant

I've mentioned before that I haven't had much luck growing from seeds. I still attribute much of this failure to the hot-cold-hot cycle and lack of sun in our one bedroom condominium.  Since moving to the house, I've had much better luck.

This year, I had a couple of things that I started in the condo actually make it into the garden here at the house, albeit planted kind of late.  One such plant was a single eggplant plant that sort of limped along all summer (and truthfully, I hadn't labeled it, so I thought it was a beet).  A couple of weeks ago, it started flowering and produced...

Yep.  A Japanese-style eggplant--one of those long skinny light purple ones that are mild tasting and sweet.  There's only one fruit on it and I'm pretty sure that's all we'll get, but there you are.  :-)
