Just this week, I took one of my regular walks out to The Orchard to see how the new trees are doing. When I started inspecting the peach tree, I noticed that one of the 3 peaches was soft and ripe. I wasn't expecting this, so you can imagine how excited I was. I picked it, testing the others (they needed some more time), and headed back to the house.
Now don't go getting too excited. Since a) I wasn't even supposed to let fruit set in the first year; and b) I'm doing nothing with regards to pest control, there was a hefty insect blemish on the top and the fruit was only about the size of a kiwi. I ended-up having to cut half of the flesh off to discard the insect damage, but man was the rest of the fruit tasty!
Best and sweetest peach I've ever had. I hope it produces lots for years to come.
