Due to the weather extremes, the gardens have been slow around here this year. I'm happy to say that I got home from work on Friday night and discovered my first ripe cherry tomato!
The variety is Sun Gold and it's very special to me for three reasons. First, it's the first tomato plant I've ever successfully started from seed. Second, it's a variety that we picked last year at a Pick-Your-Own cherry tomato farm near our house and it may or may not be from a seed I saved (I'm not sure because I ordered a packet from Johnny's and mixed-up which plants were which). Third, it's the first tomato variety that I actually enjoy raw. They're super sweet and more like eating fruit than tomatoes (yes, I know it's botanically a fruit).
So what did I do with it? Being the nice husband that I am, I sliced it in half and shared it with my wife. :-)
